Welcome to the Michiana Paralegal Association
Michiana Paralegal Association ("MPA") was established in September 1989. As an association of dedicated professionals, MPA has matured into a strong paralegal association with members from every part of northwest Indiana and southwest Michigan, a geographic area known as "Michiana." In addition to our affiliation with the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA), we are a member of the Alliance of Indiana Paralegal Associations.

Thoughts from the President
Hello Members and Friends,
It is so hard to believe that we are already in the middle of Spring and warmer weather is upon us. Many of you might are preparing for those much anticipated summer vacations or perhaps a graduation or two. It is truly a time to get out and enjoy the warm weather and sunshine. As many of you have been working hard to prepare for the warm weather and the many projects on your list, so too has the Board been working very hard on so many projects. therefore, I wanted to take a few moments to update you on their progress.
We have been blessed to have so many informative presentations so far this year. If you missed any of our previous meetings then you surely missed some valuable and informative subjects. We learned from Jonathan Watson about how social media has impacting the discovery process in litigation and the importance of cellphone forensics and the preservation of data from Steven Keilman. Samantha Chapman of the Indiana Secretary of State's office shared with us all the changes to Indiana's Notary Public requirements and how these impact the paralegal profession. And in our May meeting, our members got some insight on how to read the new tax returns and how the changes in the tax laws impact litigation and the discovery process. All of these meetings were invaluable and we were honored and blessed to have our presenters to take time out of their busy schedules to bring us this information.
But we are not stopping here. There is so much more to come. On June 11, 2019, we will be having a presentation on credentialing and the importance of a credentialed paralegal in today's market. You will not want to miss this opportunity to learn more about the creditial process, study tools, and exams. Please see the notice on this page or the event calendar for more details and registration. We would love to see you there. And as a bonus, all members attending this meeting will have a chance at winning our drawing prize. The study manual of your choice for either the PACE or PCCE exam!
In July, we will have our annual family social event where you can take the opportunity to enjoy those Strikes and Spares tickets you bought during our fundraiser going on now. (See home page for for details)
MPA will be doing a series of fundraising activities all summer long and we need every member to help. As you know, as a non-profit organization, MPA relies on fundraising to support the various obligations and activities MPA performs annually. These obligations include financing our seminars, CLE conferences, annual events and the various administrative costs incurred for the daily operations of MPA. Fundraising is also needed in order for MPA to send a Delegate to the various NFPA conferences so that we may maintain a connection to the paralegal profession nationally keeping our members informed of changes across the nation. MPA strives to keep the costs down all while keeping the membership dues affordable. Therefore, fundraising is an important and necessary responsibility MPA must partake. The members of MPA will be receiving notices through your email of some upcoming fundraising projects we will be conducting. The Board asks that each member make every effort to participate in this very important endeavor. If any member has any suggestions or ideas on fundraising please contact any Board member and we would be happy to hear your thoughts. Also, if you or any firm or organization would be interested in sponsoring any of our events, please contact us to find out how. MPA offers a variety of sponsorship levels and advertising. Any board member would be happy to answer any questions.
Also, in the coming days all members will be getting emails regarding information on upcoming events to include our fall seminar on real estate and our 30th Anniversary event coming in the near future. That's right! MPA is celebrating 30 years in existence and we will be honoring some very important guests that have been with us through it all!
You will also be seeing in your email a survey that MPA does every few years that is extremely helpful in keeping us informed of what our members want and need from MPA. This is a very important tool for MPA and I ask that everyone participate.
As always, we will do our very best to not fill your inbox with too much, but we strive to keep all our members informed of all things MPA. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions that you feel would benefit MPA and its members, please do not hesitate to share them with any Board member.
MPA continues to strive to be leaders in the paralegal profession in the Michiana area and will work very hard for the betterment of our members and the profession as a whole. Together we can and will do great things.
Have a wonderful summer and I hope to see you at our upcoming events.
Brandy L. Henderson, President
