Michiana Paralegal Association

Welcome to the Michiana Paralegal Association

Michiana Paralegal Association ("MPA") was established in September 1989. As an association of dedicated professionals, MPA has matured into a strong paralegal association with members from every part of northwest Indiana and southwest Michigan, a geographic area known as "Michiana." In addition to our affiliation with the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA), we are a member of the Alliance of Indiana Paralegal Associations.

I hope this message finds you and your family safe and healthy.  By now we are all inundated with phrases like “unprecedented times” and “new normal” just to name a couple.  Although these are unprecedented times, I hope you have been able to stay connected with the ones you love in the best way you can while practicing social distancing.  Undoubtedly, it’s been difficult to adapt to the new normal with working from home, e-learning with the kids, and trying to find inventive ways to keep the cabin fever at bay. However, I am heartened and encouraged by the ingenuity and resourcefulness of the ways in which we have learned to leverage technology to maintain our connections with one another.  It truly speaks to the spirit of humankind to face adversity and come out better for it.

As MPA moves into its ‘new normal’ routine, the Board has been hard at work preparing for the coming months.  We fully intend to maintain our Member’s Meeting schedule over the coming months as well as offer the few we had to reschedule due to the health crisis.  MPA continues to be diligent in serving our members while doing so safely and in strict compliance with federal, state, and local guidelines. The health and safety of our members and their families is our first priority, yet we know that many still must continue to work while balancing childcare and other personal matters. We also understand that some of our members are concerned about job stability or are actively seeking employment.  For these reasons we believe it is critically important to continue to offer continuing legal education, notifications of employment opportunities, and to generally maintain social engagement with our members.  Therefore, for the foreseeable future we will be holding our member meetings via Zoom, and reducing the cost to attend accordingly. We are also implementing payment flexibility for our dues to accommodate the economic strain we are all enduring during this very so trying time.  Finally, should any employer be looking for a paralegal or legal assistant to add to their team, we invite you to post your position details in our Job Bank section, free of charge.

Other good news to share is the launch of our brand new rendition of Footnotes, MPA’s first e-newletter. A big shout out to Erica Richey for her time, patience and creativity in putting this fabulous e-newsletter together.  It will be an exciting addition to our media outlets and we have aspirations to have editions out quarterly. If any non-member would like a copy of Footnotes, please feel free to email your request to any Board Member or me directly at

We will also continue to provide updates here and to our other social media outlets with the latest information available concerning COVID-19 court procedures, remote notary implementation, and other important topics.  As always, please feel free to reach out to MPA with any questions, suggestions, inquiries, or if you want to share anything. We would love to hear from you!  You can email me at

I close with a call for peace and calm our nation so desperately needs right now. A lot of change has happened in a very short amount of time, but know that our thoughts are with all of our members, colleagues, the legal community and beyond as we all learn to adapt to our new way of life!  Stay positive, stay safe and be well!
